Ive raised my own laying hens for over 6 years now. Here are my newest girls!  These ladies are called Buff Orpingtons.  They are a very gentle bird that will follow you around like a dog and reward you with many eggs. Have you ever thought of raising your own hens?  Most cities have less restrictive zoning codes for hens than other farm animals.  The advantages of having your own backyard hens are many when it comes to eggs.  Here are just a few reasons why back yard eggs are better than store bought.  

• Back yard hens are rasied in a more humane way.  The chickens in an industrial egg farm are rasied in a small cage where they can barley move.  No fun for a bird.  
• Back yard free range eggs are less in cholesterol.
• Back yard eggs contain more omega 3 fats.
• Back yard eggs contain less saturated fat.
• Back yard eggs are richer in vitamins and nutrients.
• Back yard eggs contain no drugs as long as your chickens are drug free.
• Back yard eggs taste better.  At least most people think so.  
• With back yard eggs you are independent raising your own chickens!  You will have a daily supply of one of the most nutrient rich foods God has given us!
