HAPPY NEW YEAR!  Any Resolutions?

Did you make any New Year's resolutions this year?  If you haven’t, I encourage you to make some.  The New Year is a time to start fresh.  It’s a time to look at the past year, analyze, and ask yourself how can I make this upcoming year better.  This is an opportunity you don’t want to miss!  Here are my suggestions to making the best out of your resolutions.

  • Keep them within reach.  Be realistic with your goals.  Make goals that you know in your mind you can reach.

  • Keep resolutions specific and to the point. For example, instead of saying I need to eat healthier, make a plan listing foods you want to include in your diet and foods you want to take out. Write down details that you can follow.

  • Keep the number of resolutions small. Don’t go overboard. Pick out 2 or 3 at the most.  The more resolutions you make the more chances you will get overwhelmed.

  • Find an accountability partner to cheer you on. This can be a great help to you.  Be honest with them on your progress.  Ask them for help when needed.  Celebrate your victories with them.

  • Write down your resolutions and revisit the list.  It is proven that when you write down your goals and review them you have a much greater chance of making them.

Here are my new year’s resolutions

At 54, I’m finding I’m just not as flexible as I used to be. I am also finding out my back is getting weaker and just doesn’t want to be as physical as it used to be. I’m feeling old!  I know I am not exercising as I should and my water intake is much too low.  I’m also finding out that at 54, I can be a little more stubborn than I used to be.  Maybe a little harder to live with?  My New Year's resolutions are the following.

  1. I will spend 10 minutes every morning stretching and doing core exercises.  I will start at 10 minutes to get in the habit. In my mind, 10 minutes out of my morning is very achievable.   Once I am in the habit, then I will probably bump it up to 15 or 20.  The fact is if I only spent 10 minutes a day I know it would make a difference and it will start a habit.

  1. I will drink 80 oz. of water a day.  A general guideline to water is take your body weight and divide it by 2.  This is how many ounces of water you should drink.  I weigh 200 lbs, so 100 oz. should be my average.  If I can get in 80 oz. it will be a HUGE improvement.  Remember your body is made up of approximately 77 percent water.  If your water intake isn’t enough you will increase your odds of soft tissue injury and soft tissue healing will be delayed.  Your body needs water to heal and stay healthy! I will drink a glass of water first thing in the morning, at lunch, dinner, and before bed.  I will also have a 20 oz. water bottle at my desk ready to go with the goal to drink at least 2 full bottles while at the clinic.  This is my plan to get in that 80 oz. of water a day.

  1. To make myself a better person overall (and easier to live with) I will make  James 1:19 and Philippians 2:3 my two theme scriptures for the year.  I will repeat them daily and ask God to help me practice them.

These are my 3 resolutions for the year!  I know that if I can keep these, I will benefit greatly.  I wish you success on yours!
